This a purely practical guide to having a dog first aid kit from our own personal and friends experiences. We would always recommend you take your dog to a vet. What is here is a simple stop gap measure till then. Having seen the extorsionate cost of "pet" and people first aid kits. I prefer to make my own.

1 MARGARINE TUB (cleaned out till no greasyness is left)
1 PR OF TWEEZERS (pulling stuff out)
1PR OF SCISSORS (cutting bandages)
1PR OF WIRE CUTTERS( to cut free dog from barb wire.
Please do not attempt to pull the barbs out of the dog)
1 NAIL FILE COARSE ( for a broken toe nail)
1 SACHET OF VINEGAR- for wasp stings
1 SM packet of SODA BICARB - for bee stings
(mix with water)
CONTAINER OF COOLED BOILED WATER
( save an old medicine bottle with screw on lid)
SM BOTTLE OF DISINFECTANT
(dettol or savlon, if you smile nicely your own vet may give you
A small bottle of chlorhexidine( pink stuff)
Please dilute solutions before applying to animal
PLEASE NOTE NO CREAMS ARE LISTED HERE
IF THE DOG HAS A DEEP WOUND THEN THE VET WILL HAVE
TROUBLE SEEING THE WOUND IF YOU PUT CREAM ALL
OVER IT.
COTTON WOOL BALLS
2 PACKS OF GAUZE
VET BAND x 2 SIZES
(can be obtained online or at some pet shops, esp those with a vet attached)
